Bariatric Surgery may reduce Knee complaints

#‎ Bariatric‬ surgery with subsequent marked weight loss may reduce knee complaints in morbidly obese adults, according to research published in Obesity Reviews. Dr V A Groen from Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis in ‪#‎ Amsterdam‬ , the ‪#‎ Netherlands‬ , and colleagues conducted a systematic review of the literature and analysed data from 13 studies involving 3,837 patients receiving bariatric surgery. Talk on Obesity and its management at Lions Club of Surat North

On the occasion of World Anti-Obesity day, Wings Bariatrics Team was invited for guest talk on Obesity. It was a wonderful organisation by the Lions Club of Surat North, President Mr. Hemant Panwala, Sec- Mr.Jagdish Fitter and their team. Around 100 people audience was there for the talk. Rajasthan Patrika is Hindi National Newspaper which covered our nLIGHTEN club inaugural meet which was on 11th May 2014. It writes about the World Health Organisation ( W.H.O ) statement on obesity, which states that by year 2020 more people will dying of Obesity rather than hunger. It also writes about the growing influence of fast food culture and thus increasing the obesity rates in India. 1st Obesity Patient support club "nLIGHTEN" in south gujarat meeting was duely covered by the press. Gujarat Guardian is one of the Gujarati leading newspaper which carried our nLIGHTEN group's news. It says that as now the Govt of India too have recognized, Bariatric surgery not only reduces weight but also is helpful in diabetes, blood pressure control. Thus its is now covered in CGHS scheme for central govt employees. Bariatric surgery for Diabetes and Hypertension ( Metabolic Syndrome )

  Mrs. Desai 45 yrs was referred to us for opinion by a renown doctor of Surat. She has been a known case of type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension since 12 years. Her BMI was 37 and had morbid obesity. So thus she was a patient of Metabolic Syndrome. The issue with her was that her sugars were uncontrolled and now not even responding to medication and Insulin Injections. Also she had an umbilical hernia. Patient was advised Laparoscopic sleeve Gastrectomy with laparoscopic cholecystecomy with Umbilical hernia repair. Patient came for follow-up on 7th day and is off  her Insulin injection with only 1 medication each for Diabetes and Hypertension which hopefully will also stop as time progress with the weightloss. The  pictures show the retrieved specimen of Remnant Stomach , gall bladder and the omentum from umbilical hernia.The X ray shows the new stomach without any fundus part of stomach. Gujarat Samachar Interview

On 23rd March 2014, Gujarat Samachar has carried my interview regarding the 1st BIB procedure in South Gujarat . Its basically a intragastric ballon which is placed in the stomach. This procedure is not a surgery and does not require anesthesia. The patient is discharged after few hours of procedure. Intragastric balloon for weight loss works best for a well educated patient who is motivated for proper eating habits and exercise. A 500-700ml ballon is placed in stomach endoscopically. Ballon is made of silicon material and causes a sense of fullness and satiety which helps in diet control and thus weight loss. 10-20 kgs of weight loss is expected in obese patients. Superobese patients can loose more than 25 kgs of weight. There are no scars in these procedures, so people who are very conscious about their looks and body can also opt for BIB

Today Divya Bhaskar Newspaper carried a article on the talk which we presented on " Recent Advances in Obesity Surgery" in the Surat FPA (Family Physician Association)forum The talk highlighted the present surgical options of weight loss surgery and also the newer options which are being studied for weight loss like SILS, Endoscpic procedures and Intragastric Balloon procedure.
