Diet and Exercise. Both are must. Together.

Physical activity has many health benefits, ranging from reducing the risk of heart disease #diabetes and #cancer to improving mental #health and mood. Drs. Cooper and Luke have been studying the link between physical activity and obesity for years. When they started their research, they assumed that physical activity would prove key to losing #weight. But the preponderance of evidence has shown that assumption to be wrong. If you increase your activity, your #appetite increases and you compensate by eating more food. So with or without increasing physical activity, calorie control remains key to losing or maintaining weight. #WingsBariatrics #nLightenClub

Suryanamaskar - Best exercise of the world

Suryanamaskar can do to your body what months of dieting cannot. And it can do to your mind what no spiritual discourse can. Not surprising, the world is going crackers over this ancient yogic tradition of worshipping the rising sun. What with the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Victoria Beckham and Kareena Kapoor endorsing it over gym workouts and bizarre diets. From improving your posture, strengthening muscles to whittling extra inches around the waist, the benefits of Suryanamaskar are many, provided you adapt it the right way. A set of 12 fixed, cyclic postures define Suryanamaskar which when performed repeatedly at an easy pace can bring a sense of well being, almost immediately. However, those with a heart condition, arthritis or slip-disk, need their doctor's consent before starting the routine. Suryanamaskar's surging popularity notwithstanding, jumpstarting a schedule is most definitely not the best thing to do for a fitness novice. If you have been gra...

15 minutes of exercise per day can extend life by 3 yrs: Study

As little as 15 minutes of exercise everyday can extend your life by as much as three years, a new research has found. Taiwanese researchers examined more than 400,000 study participants in a 12-year period, where patients self-reported their weekly exercise regimen and were then placed in one of five groups: inactive, low, medium, high or very high exercise activity. The study found that people in the low-exercise group, who spent 15 minutes on fitness per day, reduced their risk of dying from cancer by 10 percent and had a three-year longer life expectancy than the inactive group. “The 30-minute a day for five or more days a week has been the golden rule for the last 15 years, but now we found even half that amount could be very beneficial,” ABC News quoted Dr Chi-Pang Wen, lead author of the study, as saying. With every additional 15 minutes of exercise per day, participants reduced their risk of dying from cancer by another 1 percent, the research found.  Res...

Pre- and Post-exercise Eating Tips

by Greg Shealey Scheduling exercise into a busy lifestyle can be a challenge, and planning meals and snacks around the exercise is another. Eating too much food, or the wrong food before exercise, can hamper your performance or cause indigestion, sluggishness, nausea and vomiting. On the other hand, if you haven't eaten in six hours and try to work out, you may feel weak and unmotivated. The type and time of meal is important. A large breakfast may be troublesome if you are going for a morning run, but it is fine for a jog before lunch. In terms of food, your goal should be to have fuel in your body from nutritious food that is no longer present in your stomach at the time of your workout. The pre-exercise food prevents hunger during exercise. Carbohydrates are easily digested, but foods high in protein and fat may linger in the stomach for some time, depending on how much you ate. Large meals can take up to six hours to empty from the stomach. Snacks, depending on their cont...

In the new report, the WCRF and AICR estimate that in the U.S., eating a nutritious diet, being physically active, and keeping body fat under control may prevent: * 38% of breast cancers * 45% of colorectal cancers * 36% of lung cancers * 39% of pancreatic cancers * 47% of stomach cancers * 69% of esophageal cancers * 63% of cancers of the mouth, pharynx, or larynx * 70% of endometrial cancers * 24% of kidney cancers * 21% of gallbladder cancers * 15% of liver cancers * 11% of prostate cancers Diet, physical activity, and limited body fat could prevent 34% of those 12 cancers overall in the U.S., and 24% of all cancers, according to the report. Those estimates are all about the b...

Fitter in 10 minutes

Exercise needn’t be an all-or-nothing venture. Just 10 minutes on a treadmill or stationary bicycle make a significant difference Ideally, you should ensure that you are out of breath for an hour a day, every day. However, exercise needn’t be an all-or-nothing venture. Just 10 minutes on a treadmill or stationary bicycle make a significant difference. You may not lose weight or lower your blood pressure, but you will end up aerobically fitter—and your waistline could get smaller (belly fat is linked to insulin resistance, contributing to heart disease and diabetes). You could also try: • Working around the house or in the garden • Swimming • Playing in the park with children • Brisk walking More power to your stride Walking can burn calories faster than a jog. Even better is power walking: • Aim for 4.5mph. • Long strides are tiring. Take quick, heel-ball-toe steps. • Bend elbows and swing arms to help you walk faster. • Can’t sustain the pace? Add speed bursts to your walk. Elastic...
