nLIGHTEN Club - South Gujarat 1st Obesity Patient Support group meeting. Gujarat Guardian coverage

Gujarat Guardian is one of the Gujarati leading newspaper which carried our nLIGHTEN group's news. It says that as now the Govt of India too have recognized, Bariatric surgery not only reduces weight but also is helpful in diabetes, blood pressure control. Thus its is now covered in CGHS scheme for central govt employees. Some other Health Insurances companies have too started reimbursement for bariatric surgery. 1st Obesity Patient support club "nLIGHTEN" in south gujarat meeting was duely covered by the press. The intention is to invite patients to share their doubts, difficulties and experience in dealing with their weight in day to day life. The patient are nlighted about the hazards of obesity and are encouraged and motivated to fight this menace. We had 11 families of our patients, 2 patients operated at Indore and one in Mumbai. Type 2 Diabetes Risk Factors

A person with some or all of the following listed health risk factors may never develop type 2 diabetes. However, the latest medical findings show that the chances of getting type 2 diabetes increase the more health risk factors you have. * A family history of diabetes . If a parent or sibling in your family has diabetes, your risk of developing type 2 diabetes increases. * Age over 45. 12th March - World Kidney day.

Today is World Kidney Day (WKD). The purpose of celebrating such kind of evet is, to create awareness in people regarding the end stage or chronic renal disease and its causes, sign and symtoms and how to deal with it. Half of the patients suffering CRF are not even aware of it. Half the patients who are knowing about it are not taking medications. Half of the patients who are taking medications are not following the life style changes advised. Nearly half of the patients of CRF are suffering due to diabtes and hypertension The focus of the WKD 2009 campaign is to: • Raise awareness about our “amazing kidneys” and stress the importance of early and comprehensive screening for people at risk of kidney disease. • Highlight that high blood pressure is a key risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD).
