MCI scrapped, single council for medical education

In a complete overhaul aimed at cleansing the medical education system in the country, a task force of the Union health ministry has decided to scrap all regulatory bodies, including the Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India, Pharmacy Council and the Nursing Council, sources revealed.
There will instead be a single regulatory body - National Council for Human Resources in Health - which will oversee seven departments related to medicine, nursing, dentistry, rehabilitation and physiotherapy, pharmacy, public health/hospital management and allied health sciences, sources involved in the revamp process said on Thursday. The move now needs a formal government notification reports today's The Times Of India.

To be very frank I am not very happy with this move. I might be totally wrong and you may not agree with me but although corrupt, remember the Medical council of India was an autonomous body. It was a prerogative of us doctors to cleanse it with our duty of voting and selecting right candidates in the body of MCI. We have failed miserably in it and thus given authority to the government to do it. At least the MCI was a body of doctors, who would have given a thought to problems as a Medical professional. Now the National council for Human resources in health will have politicians and Babus as its members. Remembering of politicians, are not most of the autonomous and private medical colleges run by Ministers. These move will give them a free run. Only the MCI inspectors were roadblocks, troubling them with high demands of money for recognition of their colleges. Now the Inspectors will be from the ministry and the colleges are also of politicians. So expect the dance of democracy.
The fate of medical education will become like the various sport bodies of India which has all politicians (Who do not know ABC of the sport they are heading) as its chiefs.

Jai Ho !!!!

  2. Ah Vikram! Come on. What good has the MCI done so far except taking bribes and approving the medical colleges which have fancy buildings? Tell me, how many of the post-graduates get enough clinical experience in many of the private medical colleges.

I know some senior residents who learn their specialty during their SR-ship. And learn from the PGs there. Who approved the course in the institute they studied in? MCI only.

On the contrary, there are many a medical colleges in India where clinical exposure is excellent but the course is not recognised by the same council making it a mockery.

I can see your apprehension regarding the people who will be managing this upcoming organization, but let us face changes and see what results does it come with. Nothing new comes with a fear of strange.

And hey, we have the Knowledge Commission at our disposal. Hope they do some work here as well.

IT WORKS LIKE AS ITS MADE ONLY FOR TAKING BRIBES.I DONT REMEMBER ANY GOOD WORK DONE BY IT DURING LAST TWO DECADES. AS PER AS ITS REPUTATION IS CONCERNED ITS A BIG SHAME THAT IT IS RUN BY DOCTORS.........OR DOCTOR POLITICIANS?

Newer system shold have in build management ides that helps to reduce curruption and takes care of atleast bare minimum criterias to begain with ,atleast enforced so that quality is well maintained. This can be learned from forieign universities methodology before implementation. Wwe should invite new ideas for improving Quality care may health services or Medical Educaton. Instead of criticising we should suggest new constructive creative ideas for better change..

  7. Dr. Vikram,
i think mci has not done any good. in order to help the private medical colleges they have seen to it that the professors do not pass the dnb candidates. i have seen postgraduates both in private and government medical colleges pass just like that and the professors do not even evaluate the theory paper while in dnb the pass percent is less than 5% in some specialities while in karnataka which has the same type of central evaluation the pass percent is 90% how can there be such a disparity. the statistics speaks of itself that there is lot of lobbying not to pass dnb candidates. the same medical colleges where the dnb candidates completed the training which start md/ms seats with capitation fee of lakhs and crores those candidates are passed by the same professors with 100% results this shows how things are moving on. the mci inspectors do not recognise dnb courses for teaching posts just for the reasons everyone knows for money and for the sake of private colleges and do not hear to the government orders or supreme court rulings. hence it is in best interest of the country and medical students and the people of the country to have something new which works good for atleast sometime when it is new. the doctors who are in mci are worse when compared to any most corrupt politician in the world. they are not even fit to be normal human beings. they take money with their tongues even if it is lying on the shit.

  11. In the publication, your name should be the first one. That's what is counted, this is as far as I know. No, the abstract thing has no stand or value. A paper has to be published

Maharastra Medical Council CME Guidelines

Medical Science is dynamic and there is no end of learning for a doctor. This is in essence the concept of continuing medical education (CME). Tremendous advances are taking place in the field of medical sciences, which are continuously changing the concept, approach to management and the outcome of several diseases. The rapid pace of these advances makes it mandatory for doctors to keep themselves updated so that they may apply this information to their patient’s well being and improve the quality of care rendered to them. A doctor must never be satisfied with his/her current level of proficiency and must always strive to enhance his/her competence and knowledge by keeping abreast with the latest developments in the field. The Central Government of India has notified the new Ethics regulations in the Gazette of India on April 16, 2002, provides that “ A Physician should participate in professional meetings as part of Continuing Medical Education Programmes, for at least 30 hours ever
